More details about these great organizations:

The Greater Chicago Food Depository

Chicago’s food bank, is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The Food Depository distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County every year. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 66 million pounds of nonperishable food and fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of 135,000 meals every day. The Food Depository’s programs and services for children, older adults and the unemployed and underemployed address the root causes of hunger.

Friends of the Chicago River

The only organization solely dedicated to the Chicago River. Since 1979, Friends has been working to improve the health of the Chicago River for the benefit of people and wildlife and by doing so, has laid the foundation for the river to be a beautiful, continuous, easily accessible of open space in the Chicago region.

Pacific Garden Mission

Since 1877, Pacific Garden Mission has been a refuge. Millions weary of struggling through life’s storms, have come to the “Old Lighthouse” seeking food, shelter, clothing, medical, and dental care. They also came seeking the answer to life’s struggles. They are offered the answer: life through faith in Jesus Christ. The efficient new state of the art facility utilizes renewable energy technologies.
